Iron Chicks Strike Again…

The dynamic duo…
If you frequent this blog you know that my wife and her sister are Tri-athletes and have completed many triathlons, Half Ironmans and marathons. This summer Team Iron Chick (as I call them), completed one sprint, two half marathons, two Half Ironmans and a few 5k’s. The last few months has seen them training for The New York City Marathon.

The weekend of fun…
For The New York City Marathon weekend, Aliicia and Jeanne stayed with a friend named Wendi, another fitness freek super freak, who happens to live in New Jersey. Wendi not only hosted Team Iron Chick but played support crew as well. Nice to have great friends!

Expo Fun…
Saturday before the race, while hanging out at Ridgewood Cycle the girls met a Perl-Izumi Rep who was heading into the city to work the Expo. He offered a ride in and out of the city allowing them to avoid the train. The Expo was huge and definately could have been call the “Asics Expo” as Asics had about half the space.

Following the Expo, lunch and lots of walking around was the order of the day. Come to think of it that probably was not a good idea to walk around the day before runnung 26.2 miles? It was Aliicia’s first time to the city so you know they had to do some toristy stuff.

Race Day…
New York provides a fantastic back drop for a Marathon and with 40 thousand + runners and three times that in spectators, it was a sight to behold. Great weather, sunny but cool, set the stage for the Sunday event. Both girls did great achieving personal bests for finishing times. I am so proud of them. My wife was the best prepared she has ever been, having trained diligently for months so her strong finish was not surprising.

While you’re there…
Wendi is friends with Drew who is the owner of Ridgewood Cycle (check out their site). Drew and team are super knowledgeable and serious competitors in the regional race scene. Aliica met them during the Timberman Ironman event in New Hampshire this past August.  Anyway, Aliica has been thinking about upgrading her Tri-bike to a Cervelo P3. The Cervelo is probably the leading Tri-Bike on the Market. Being that Drew is a Cervelo dealer Aliicia took this opportunity to make the move. Drew hooked her up with a new P3 Carbon equiped with Durace components, FSA cranks and Visiontech bars. The build came with basic wheels so I surprised her by stealth ordering ZIP 404’s as a late birthday present.

We have had Aliicia’s Trek Equinox 7 Tri Bike for sale on Craig’s list for a few weeks.  We have had a few nibbles but no serious buyers. I have had such good luck with selling things on Craig’s list that I am sure it will move. Anyone interested?

All in a days weekends work…
Well the girls completed another season. Sure makes me feel like a slacker. Oh well, someone has to be.
